Travel guide

How to get to Fuvahmulah

Fuvahmulah is a single-island atoll in the far south of the Maldives. You can reach it through Malé or through Gan International Airport in Addu, the nearest international airport. Here’s how, plus what divers should know about luggage.

Option 1: Domestic flight from Malé (most guests)

Most guests arrive at Velana International Airport (MLE) in Malé, then take a domestic flight south to Fuvahmulah Airport (FVM).

  • Flight time: about 70 minutes
  • Airlines: domestic carriers including Maldivian operate the route. Check the airline websites for the current schedule.
  • Connection time: allow 2–3 hours between your international arrival and the domestic flight, and check that your bags are transferred.
We can book it for you. Send us your international flight details and we’ll arrange the domestic connection so the timing works.

Option 2: Fly into Addu (Gan), the nearest international airport

Gan International Airport (GAN) in Addu Atoll is the closest international airport to Fuvahmulah. It currently has international flights from Colombo, Sri Lanka, twice a week, which can be a convenient route if you’re connecting through Colombo or combining your trip with Sri Lanka. Check the airline for current days and times.

From Addu, a public speedboat runs to Fuvahmulah. The crossing takes roughly 45–90 minutes depending on sea conditions, and it doesn’t run every day, so ask us for the current schedule and we’ll help you time the connection.

Diving Addu too? Addu is known for reef mantas, wreck and lagoon diving. Ask us about combining a few days of tiger sharks in Fuvahmulah with diving in Addu.

Arriving at Fuvahmulah

Scuba Haven is just 2 minutes from Fuvahmulah Airport. We’ll meet you when you land and drive you to the house. The dive harbour is also 2 minutes away, and Bondofanno beach is a 30-second walk.

Luggage tips for divers

  • Domestic flights have tighter baggage allowances than international ones, and excess weight is charged per kilo. Check your ticket’s allowance before you pack.
  • A full set of dive gear weighs 15–20 kg. Many divers bring only their mask, computer and wetsuit and rent the heavy items here.
  • Pack your dive computer and camera in your hand luggage.

Flying home after diving

Plan a no-fly surface interval before your domestic flight back to Malé, usually 18–24 hours after your last dive, depending on your dive computer and your training agency’s guidance. Our packages are built to fit this in.

Plan it with us

Tell us your arrival date and time and we’ll plan the connection, your pickup and your first dive day.
